I'm a detail person. I like precision. I plan things and dislike surprises. Interestingly, though, it is the surprises in my life that made me a resilient survivor. An abusive alcoholic first husband, a chronic incurable illness, a stem cell transplant - none of these were on my list of things to do when I started out. But there you are.
What I have learned is that life will hand you all the drama you can handle. You don't have to make it yourself. I don't worry about things I can't influence or control. I am endlessly curious about life in general, but I don't need to manage all the bits. No drama. Just life as it comes.
My desire for control and detail can be satisfied through my art. Weaving requires planning. Crazy quilting and embroidery require attention to detail. Gardening requires both, plus getting dirty. There are lots of ways to scratch that itch. I sometimes try to control my family, but that just annoys people and feels pretty hopeless. In the firm belief that misery is optional, I attempt to focus my energies in ways that feel productive and satisfying.
So, back to the details. This blog is not a how-to guide. It is about what is true for me; what I have found to be useful in my life. One size doesn't fit all, but sometimes it fits most. Give it a try.
